Program Note:

This short piece, for mixed SATB chorus, remains my sole completed work in the medium. It dates from my student days at the Curtis Institute of Music, when the familiar text was “assigned” by Ned Rorem. I am a huge fan of sacred choral music, having grown up in the Anglican tradition, and to me this piece would be perfectly suited for devotional use during Offertory or Communion. That being said, it can certainly function in a concert setting as well. The youthful piece owes a healthy dose of its lifeblood to the sounds of Poulenc, whose choral works (the greatest of the 20th century) were then, and remain today, a particular obsession.
